Rocky road, aka chocolate with everything in it

What better time to hold a bake sale than at halloween and for what better reason than for charity, Kid's Company to be exact. Each person in my office was charged with contributing in some way, be it carving pumpkins, designing posters or making cakes.

This week I was pretty busy so decided to make something that I could make over the weekend and it would keep until bake sale day. The answer: rocky road. Chocolate upon more chocolate, upon biscuit, marshmallow upon Rolos. I normally add in raisons too but they seem to be an ingredient many in my office dislike.

Recent cake explorations

I was trying to do this in 'real-time' but sometimes work and other things just take over so the next few posts may not be in any sort of chronological order. But what does it matter...

I thought I'd start with one of summery-est cake moments. As you can see it is a pot of frozen yoghurt, with brownie (yes that's the cake bit) and raspberries. I met D on Brewer Street for a quick catch up the day after I got back from Jersey. The weather was still amazingly hot so we needed a cool down and frozen yoghurt seemed the right way to go; you would not think it possible to be both delicious and healthy at the same time (if you take away the brownie), but SNOG can perform miracles.

SNOG is one of my favourite places to go, it's all electric pink and white. It's not just them doing frozen yoghurt though, when at work, we'll take a walk into Angel and drop by FRAE on Camden Passage, which is basically the same idea, less fluorescent maybe and more of the 'natural' vibe. They do strawberry flavour yoghurt, which is a must; almost as good as a pot of Häagen-Dazs.

Lunch at an Italian greasy spoon

Friday was a lunch of chit chat, wedding talk and catching up with not too long lost friends. L from work and I met C and a work friend of hers at Alpino on Chapel Market, a Italian style greasy spoon selling everything from the obligatory full English to specials with baby octopus and clams as ingredients.

In hindsight, it was probably a little too hot for a non-iced latte, but on the way out I picked up a nicely sized coffee which came in one of those furry polystyrene covered paper cups. I only wish that today's weather would disappear and we could have Friday's lovely sunshine back.
